About the Author
Dr. Connie Mayfield is Dean of Fine Arts at Cerritos College in California. Prior to that she was Professor of Music at Kansas City Kansas Community College, where she taught music theory and music technology and served as Coordinator of the Music Department. Mayfield was a Fulbright scholar to London, England, and completed her Ph.D. in music theory at the University of Kansas. Her presentations on music technology include the League for Innovation Conference on Information Technology, the MENC national convention, and the first annual Technology in Education Conference presented by the California Community Colleges Foundation. She is a leader in teaching theory and developing music technology curricula.

Superb Content. Poor binding. Textbook priced.

Great theory book. Lots of additional online content. The content is superb. However, for this price, I would expect the publisher to print it in hardback. It's priced as a student text book, i.e., way overpriced since students (and / or their parents) have no choice but to buy it.

Theory Essentials

This book is has strong lessons and a great teaching basis. Theory Essentials is better for students that have previous musical knowledge, but new students may use it as well. I give it a 4/5 because although the lessons are great, some material might be difficult to understand for newer students, but this is a good learning product.
