Got Carbines? Buy This!

Earlier reviewers have commented on the author's grammatical mistakes.
They're right.
Some have mentioned the lack of information where the AR15/M16 is concerned.
They're right, too.
On the first aspect, the author's a Soldier, not an English teacher. Something happened to his editor and his daughter had to take over the editing. Maybe he can get these grammar issues fixed for the next edition - maybe not. As it is, there is no confusion whatsoever about what Mr. Lamb is saying, so for me, the grammar isn't an issue.
On the second, there are many books out there that cover this weapon's history in detail. Doing so in this book wasn't necessary, and had Mr. Lamb attempted to do so in this book, it would have detracted from his work.
What Mr. Lamb DOES do, is share tips and techniques that he's learned over the years, and he does it well. He leads you through equipment selection, layout, and usage. He covers practically every malfunction that a carbine is likely to suffer, and he shows you simple and fast ways to clear them. He lists drills that you can do to improve your efficiency. One of the best tips he gives is how to do a proper 'press check' in the carbine.
Earlier reviewers have commented that Mr. Lamb does not write with a 'my way or the highway' attitude, and that his book is pure 'meat and potatoes' information. Those guys are 100% spot-on. No fluff, no filler, just what you need.
This isn't exactly an entry-level book. As he mentions up front, he assumes that the reader already is already familiar with the care and feeding of the AR15/M16. However, if you're just getting into the world of the carbine, he does give some good pointers on features and accessories that you may/may not want in your own weapon, so this book is still a good purchase for you.
I've dealt with ARs for over 20 years, taken classes, etc. and I can tell you that this book is one of the most solid purchases that I've made book-wise.
Bottom line: If you want to further your education in combat weaponcraft, buy this book.

Real Deal Tribal Knowledge

This book is Tribal Knowledge passed down from a down from a proven warrior in a plain fashion. Like Marcus Luttrell, Chris Kyle and a few others, Kyle Lamb is a grass roots kinda guy who cares about teaching and mentoring warriors more than punctuation or precise grammatical correctness. I purchased the VTAC videos to compliment his books so that I may have an opportunity to listen to and watch his manner of teaching. There are many books out there where the genuine human elements have been sterilized out of the context of the book only leaving the factual, instructional material. This book has knowledge and character similar to his videos of drills where you hear chickens crowing amidst the counsel of a warrior and gunfire.
Thanks to all of you sheep dogs who hang it out there every day to serve, protect and defend the sheep.

From a man that really knows!

The problem with most shooting books written by current/former "operators" is that their service background alone rarely indicates marksmanship prowess, however, being generally ignorant of good shooting, the gun owning public buys off on it even though many in the special operations community are not the shooting experts that everyone assumes they are.
SGM Kyle E. Lamb (ret.) is NOT one of those and represents the ideal firearms trainer, a person with field/combat experience combined with a high level of PROVEN shooting experience honed in organized competition. Search his name on Youtube. All his shooting demos have well-defined standards. If you can't beat him, then he has something for you to learn!
The author discusses this in his book, Green Eyes & Black Rifles: Warrior's Guide to the Combat Carbine. Mr. Lamb has served in combat with the 5th Special Forces Group and is an active competition shooter. He states the purpose of his text thus:
"This book is not for the competition minded; this book is for the shooter show hopes to use ballistic tools to eliminate a threat if the need arises. You may be a law enforcement professional, full-time military, National Guard or Reservist, tactical consultant, or instructor. You will find information here that you can use along with practical training techniques and exercises to improve your skill."
So what does this Delta Force operator and trainer say about competitive shooting?
"I have also been heavily involved in competition shooting with pistols, rifles, carbines, and shotguns. This competition experience has helped to make me a better rounded tactical shooter. Competition is a great place to experience shooting stresses that you might otherwise not experience until the day you become engaged. I, for one, want to feel the stress in competition, know what it is to deal with it, and learn from it. Being overcome by events in a tactical crisis is not the time to feel your first dump of adrenaline. So get out there and place yourself in an unfamiliar, stressful environment. It will pay off."
